Weight = volume × density. Densities use common engineering values (g/cm³); different grades and heat-treatment conditions vary slightly. When estimating stock, add extra allowance for saw-cutting and clamping.

FAQ

How much does a 100×100×10 mm aluminum plate weigh?

Volume 100 cm³ × density 2.70 = 270 g. A steel plate of the same size is about 785 g—aluminum is roughly a third of the weight of steel.

Why add allowance when estimating stock?

Saw-cut loss, clamping area and facing allowance all eat into material. A common practice: add 5–10 mm to length and width and 2–5 mm to thickness, then adjust for the part and workholding method.
